Getting creative with templates

Bei The Lilypad gab es kürzlich einen Chat, aus dem sich eine sehr schöne Challenge ergab: Getting creative with templates. Normalerweise bin ich nicht gerade kreativ mit Templates, denn ihr Vorteil liegt ja darin, daß man sich eben NICHT überlegen muß, was plaziere ich wo usw.

Aber ich mag eine gute Herausforderung, also habe ich mir eine Template gesucht, mit der ich mich austoben konnte. Und wurde fündig mit dieser Template von Little Butterfly Wings des M3 Kits vom Februar.

At one of the chats at The Lilypad there evolved a very nice creative challenge, Getting Creative with Templates. Normally I am NOT creative with templates, what's the point of using one if you then go and shake it up. Might as well do it from scratch then.

But I do love a good challenge, so I looked for a template where I could go all out. And found this one from Little Butterfly Wings that came with the February M3 kit (which happens to be one of my favs).

Die Template besteht nur aus 15 Ebenen, von denen 9 Ebenen für Hintergrund, Journaling, Titel, Schatten oder Fotospots waren. Ich hatte also jede Menge auszuschneiden und einzufügen! Ganz zu schweigen davon, daß ich den Rahmen  von vier kleinen auf ein großes Foto ändern musste.

Hinzugefügt habe ich (außer den drei kleinen Elemente um das Foto herum und den drei Korksterne) nur zwei Masken für das gepunktete Papier.

Mein Layout gefällt mir sehr gut.

The template only consist of 15 layers, out of which 9 are for background, journaling, title, drop shadows and photo spots. So I had a lot of cutting and pasting to do. Not to mention that I had to change the frame up from four small photos to one big one.
Except for three small elements around the photo and the cork stars I only added two masks for the dotted paper.

Was habe ich mit der Template gemacht?

• Herzen und die Farbe der Herzen entfernt
• Nähstiche verkleinert und verschoben
• 4 Fotospots entfernt
• Rahmen komplett auseinandergenommen und wieder zusammengesetzt
• Die herunterhängenden Linien von rechts nach link verschoben und das xoxo Zeug entfernt
• Journaling und Titel entfernt
• Der Rest war alles auf einer Ebene. Auseinandergeschnitten, neu angeordnet und mit einer weichen Pinselspitze harsche Übergänge entfernt.
• Drei Korksterne angebracht. Foto unter den Rahmen gelegt, drei Elemente um das Foto plaziert und beschriftet. Titel erstellt und dafür ein paar von den Nähstichen entfernt.

Du siehst also, man kann aus einer Template ganz schön viel rausholen und etwas ganz Neues daraus machen.

What did I do with the template?

• Removed hearts and the colour of the hearts
• Decreased the size of the stitching and moved it
• Removed four photo spots
• Took frame completely apart and put it back together again
• Moved the vertical lines from right to left and removed all the xoxo
• Removed journaling and title
• All the other stuff was on one layer. Cut and pasted tons, re-arranged everything and removed harsh transitions with a soft brush
• Added cork stars. Put photo under the frame, added three elements around the photo and added writing. Made title and removed stitching

You can see you can get a lot of life out of a template and make it look altogether different.
